300 King Leonidas Gerard Butler's Helmet (23-M1006)
This helmet was acquired by the production for use in '300' (2006).
Urethane helmet with horsehair, leather interior, and ostrich feather plume, made for Gerard Butler for use in the film.
This helmet is marked with three different production labels, indicating multiple uses in the film:
(i) Marked 'Butler' inside and later labelled 'stunt'.
(ii) Labelled with masking tape 'Leonidas Stunt Double #3'.
(iii) Labelled with printed tape Leonidas Stage 3 #1. This stage corresponds to the battle 1 hr and 10 mins into the movie.
The helmet exhibits a circular crack around the left eye where the helmet was damaged during filming.
According to costume designer Michael Wilkinson a total of 17 helmets in 5 stages of wear were made for Leonidas. Stage 3 and 4 being very similar in appearance. The fifth stage not being used for filming (last image).
